Appleton Food is an open community project created by Fox Cities Design. We maintain a transparent, modern food directory tracking over 1,300 dining and beverage locations across Outagamie and Calumet counties.
Why Appleton Food Exists
Traditional review portals and search engines often prioritize paid ad placements or incomplete corporate listings. We wanted a comprehensive, unbiased, and fast local directory where every food and drink establishment across Appleton, Neenah, Menasha, Grand Chute, Kaukauna, and Hortonville gets an equal spotlight.
Open Data Pipeline & Monthly Syncs
Our dataset is built on top of Overture Maps Foundation (backed by Amazon AWS, Meta, Microsoft, and TomTom) combined with OpenStreetMap (OSM) and local Chamber registries.
We process these open geospatial datasets through our custom normalization pipeline—filtering venue boundaries strictly to the Fox Cities, standardizing category tags, cleaning up addresses, and verifying geographic coordinates.
Manually Verified & Cleaned
We manually verify every single extra entry—scrubbing non-restaurant businesses, closed spots, and invalid records so you get 100% active local dining.
Monthly Pipeline Releases
We re-run our data pipeline monthly as new Overture Places releases drop to catch new local business openings and updates.
